TTI (parent of Ryobi) experienced a product recall linked to connector failures in high-current battery power tools. The root cause identified in post-failure analysis of similar incidents is stress relaxation in connector contacts — where inferior alloys lose contact force over time under sustained current, leading to resistance heating and eventual failure. NB109 is the engineering solution: its CuNiSi chemistry combined with controlled work hardening provides stress relaxation resistance that standard CuFe (C19400) and phosphor bronze alloys cannot match at the temperatures and current levels involved. Specifying NB109 or STOL 94 for new programme connector contacts is the technically correct response to these failure modes.
